- Mississippi National River and Recreation Area
This national reserve consists of a 72-mile stretch of the river through the Twin Cities in Minnesota. Mississippi National River and Recreation Area's boundary includes 54,000 acres of river and adjoining land. Of those, only 43 acres are owned by the National Park Service.
- Upper Mississippi River Conservation Committee
The goal of this Dubuque, Iowa-based group is to "Promote the preservation and wise utilization of the natural and recreational resources of the Upper Mississippi River (UMR) and to formulate policies, plans and programs for conducting cooperative studies".
- Lower Mississippi River Conservations Committee
The LMRCC's mission is to promote the protection, restoration, enforcement, understanding, awareness and wise use of the natural resources of the Lower Mississippi River, through coordinated and cooperative efforts involving research, planning, management, information sharing, public education and advocacy.
